Avoiding discrimination in your job adverts

So, what is classed as discrimination in a job advert?
The Equality Act legally protects people from discrimination. In a nutshell, this means from unfair treatment on the basis of certain personal characteristics.
The main 9 personal characteristics are:
- Marriage of Civil Partnership
- Religion / Beliefs
- Sexual Orientation
- Gender Reassignment
So, when writing your job adverts, male sure that you are not discriminating on any of the above. Some of our clients are even surprised that you cannot even state the number of years’ experience your ideal candidate should have. This can be seen as discriminating against younger applicants who may not have had the chance to gain that experience – Crazy I know, but that’s the law.
