Top Tips to have a Successful First Day in your New Job!

So, you’ve got yourself a new job and you are looking forward to starting. But a little apprehensive and want to make a great first impression to both your new boss and your new colleagues?

Here are our top tips to help you have a successful first day:

  1. Be on Time – Whatever you do, just don’t be late – set your alarm earlier than you would normally need to and get into the office early, allowing for extra traffic. It’s far easier for you to meet new colleagues as they arrive for work, opposed to feeling everyone is looking at you when you walk through the door!
  2. Dress to Impress – You will no doubt meet a lot of new people on your first day, so you want to make a great first impression. Depending on the company & their dress policy, will depend on what to wear. Remember it is better to overdress than be too casual, it just sends the wrong signals. You can always remove a tie or jacket to look less formal, but it is harder to smarten up.
  3. Take Notes – Take a pen & notebook with you on your first day as you will want and will need to take lots of notes, from passwords to processes & procedures. Taking notes re-iterates the fact that you are listening and keen to learn. Plus, you can easily refer to them when needed.
  4. Ask Questions – Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure of anything – it is always better to ask than to make a mistake later. Asking questions again shows you are paying attention and keen to learn.

And tip number 5, don’t park in the boss’s space, it never goes down well…

Good luck in your new job, you will be part of the furniture in no time and won’t always be the new person.
